The last blood test is ordered for between weeks 32 and 34 of pregnancy. Along with other parameters, these tests include the analysis of the coagulation tests required for epidural anesthesia. An appointment with our anesthesiologists is scheduled for the last month of pregnancy, in which we will explain what epidural anesthesia involves as well as determine that there is no contraindication to their administration. If needed, an exam will be performed and patients will receive instructions for birth. Although some people prefer to give birth without an epidural, you must still go to this appointment because sometimes people change their mind during delivery or complications make a C-section necessary and it is important that patients understand these procedures.
